Convert a Lead Into a Client Manually

All plansBeginnerVideo, 0:47Updated August 7, 2026

Open the claimed lead, choose Actions then Convert to Client, and confirm. WorkZen creates the client, moves the lead's estimates, visits, comments, and files onto it, and keeps the lead as a Converted record linked to the client.

The moment a lead becomes a real client is worth celebrating, but it's also a data moment you don't want to fumble. WorkZen carries every note, file, and conversation across the conversion so nothing is lost. Here's how to flip a lead to a client in two clicks.

Convert the lead

  1. Open the lead. The convert option appears once the lead is claimed (status Assigned). If it still says New, claim it first.
  2. Open Actions and click Convert to Client.
  3. A confirmation appears: "This will convert the lead into a client. This action cannot be undone." Confirm, and WorkZen takes you straight to the new client profile.

What carries over

From the leadOn the new client
Names, company name, email, phone, mobile, websiteClient contact details
AddressFirst property, named Main Location, set as primary and billing address
EstimatesMoved to the client, each stamped "Transferred from lead"
VisitsMoved to the client's schedule
CommentsMoved over, marked "(transferred from lead)"
Files and photosMoved to the client's files

Nothing is copied and left behind in two places; the estimates, visits, comments, and files now live on the client, which is where the ongoing relationship happens.

What happens to the lead record

The lead is not deleted. It stays in your lead list with the Converted status, permanently linked to the client. Opening it shows a banner ("This lead was converted to a client") with a View Client Profile button. That link is how your conversion metrics stay traceable: every client born from a lead knows exactly which lead, which source, and how long it took.

The lead's owner and teammates with lead access get a "Lead Converted" notification that opens the new client.

Warning

Conversion cannot be undone. Wait for a real commitment (an accepted estimate, a booked job) before converting, or your conversion metrics will flatter you.

Already a client? Link instead of convert

If the duplicate banner shows the person already exists as a client, use Link to Client from the banner instead of converting. It transfers the lead's estimates, visits, comments, and files onto the existing client and lets you choose which contact data to keep, so you end up with one client, not two.

Plan availability

Lead merge and Link to Client require the ZenGrow plan or higher. See pricing.
