Use group conversations in team chat

ZenGrow & ZenAIBeginner3 minutesUpdated August 16, 2026

In Messages, click New group, pick teammates, name the group, and create it. Open Group info to add or remove members, rename the group, or leave it. Any participant can manage the group.

One crew, one thread. Group conversations keep a project's chatter out of your personal messages and visible to everyone who needs it.

Create a group

In Messages, click New group, select teammates from the Team list, give it a name, and hit Create group. The thread appears with a Group badge, and everyone you picked sees it immediately.

Manage it

Open the conversation and click Group info:

  • Members lists everyone; Add member brings in more teammates (if the whole company is already in, WorkZen tells you so).
  • Remove takes someone out; they stop seeing new messages from that point.
  • Rename group when the project outlives the name.
  • Leave group removes yourself, with the same effect.

Any participant can do all of this. No admin bottleneck: if you are in the group, you can manage the group.

Keep it quiet

Group threads support the same mute options as any conversation: Mute for 8 hours, Mute for 1 week, or Mute always. Muting silences notifications without hiding the thread, so the messages are waiting when you choose to look.

Note

Group conversations are part of team chat, which is internal only. Texting clients happens in client conversations on your business number, and clients can never see or join a group.
