Understand the Payment Fees Report

All plansBeginner4 minutesUpdated August 23, 2026

Go to Reports > Payment Fees Report, pick a date range, and click Run Report. You get the combined processing fees you paid, how much of that you recovered from clients through surcharges, and your net fee cost, with trends and breakdowns by payment method and client.

Every card payment costs you a little. This report adds it up, shows how much your clients covered, and tells you what processing truly cost you.

Run the report

Go to Reports > Payment Fees Report. Pick a date range, choose a Group By, and click Run Report.

What the numbers mean

Four summary cards top the report:

CardWhat it counts
Fees PaidThe combined processing fee on your card payments, with growth versus the previous period
Recovered from ClientsSurcharges your clients paid
Net Fee CostFees Paid minus Recovered, your true cost
Total CollectedEverything collected in the range

Two rules keep the numbers honest. First, the fee is one combined figure; it is never split into processor and platform parts. Second, a payment whose fee has not settled yet shows not recorded rather than zero, and a note above the charts counts how many are still waiting.

The three tabs

  • Overview: Fees Over Time (fees, recovered, and net cost side by side), Fees by Payment Method, and Top Clients by Fees.
  • Details: the Payment Details table with Date, Client, Invoice #, Method, Charged, Fee, Recovered, and Net Received per payment.
  • Breakdown: the Payment Method Breakdown, where fee-free methods like cash and check stay visible on purpose, the contrast against card fees is the point, plus the Client Fee Breakdown.

Deciding on surcharges

If Net Fee Cost is climbing, consider enabling or adjusting surcharging so clients cover more of the fee. Surcharge vs fees explains the difference and how to set it up.

Who can see it

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The report shows one combined fee figure per payment, everything the processing took together. There is no separate platform line to reconcile.
Card fees settle shortly after the payment. Until they do, the fee is unknown, and the report says so instead of pretending it was zero. Those payments are counted in a note above the charts and excluded from fee totals until their fee arrives.
The fee is what processing cost you. Recovered is the surcharge your client paid on top when you have surcharging enabled. Net Fee Cost is the difference, your true out-of-pocket cost. See surcharge vs fees for the full picture.
