Why am I not receiving notifications?

All plansBeginner4 minutesUpdated August 16, 2026

Check Settings > Notifications first: each event has its own switch per channel, and email is off by default. If in-app notifications arrive but push does not, the problem is the browser or phone permission, not WorkZen.

A notification travels a longer road than it looks: event, workspace settings, your settings, channel, device permission. A break anywhere means silence at the end. Walk the road in order.

1. Know the three channels

Every notification can arrive three ways, each with its own switch:

ChannelWhat it isDefault
In-appThe bell icon inside WorkZenOn
PushPop-ups on your phone or browser, even with WorkZen closedOn
EmailA message to your inboxOff

The bell is the record; push is the doorbell. A missed push is not a lost notification, it is still in the bell. And if you expected emails: they are off by default, which is a choice, not a malfunction.

2. Check your switches

Settings > Notifications lists every event with an on/off switch and a checkbox per channel. Find the event you are missing and check its row. Two catches: changes only apply after you hit save in the bar at the bottom, and if you ever clicked unsubscribe in a WorkZen email, that event's email checkbox got turned off; re-tick it here.

Admins have a second tab, System notifications, holding workspace-wide events (new leads, integration issues) and which roles receive them. A workspace-level off silences that event for everyone regardless of personal settings, and role targeting means some events simply are not yours to receive.

3. Fix browser push

If the bell shows notifications but your computer never pops them, the browser permission is the culprit. Once a browser is set to Block, WorkZen cannot even ask again; you have to allow it in the browser's site settings (in Chrome: the icon left of the address bar > Notifications > Allow), then reload WorkZen. If notifications recently stopped for no reason, a hard reload of the tab often re-registers the connection.

4. Fix phone push

On mobile, notification permission belongs to the OS. Check the phone's Settings > Notifications > WorkZen (the iOS app also has an App Permissions screen that shows the status and takes you there). Then remember two behaviors: logging out of the app stops push on that device until you log back in, and after reinstalling the app, simply opening it re-registers the device.

Tip

Quick diagnosis: ask a teammate to send you a team chat message. Bell updates but no pop-up means a permission problem (steps 3 or 4). Nothing at all, even in the bell, means a settings problem (step 2).

Frequently Asked Questions

Probably. The unsubscribe link turns off the email channel for that one event type. Go to Settings > Notifications, find the event, and re-tick its email box.
Each device has its own permission. Your computer's browser has notifications blocked or was never asked; the phone's app has permission. Fix the browser permission and both will ring.
Either your personal switch for that event is off, your role is not included for that event, or an admin turned it off workspace-wide. Check your settings first, then ask an admin to check the System notifications tab.
