How To Create A Lead Manually in WorkZen

All plansBeginnerVideo, 1:06Updated August 7, 2026

Go to Leads and click New Lead. Enter a first name plus at least one contact method (email or phone), then save. The lead lands in your pipeline with the New status, ready to be claimed.

Not every lead comes through a form. Walk-ins, referrals, and "my buddy gave me your number" calls are gold, but only if you actually put them in the system. Here's how to add a lead manually so it joins the pipeline like every other opportunity.

Where the button lives

Go to Leads and click New Lead. A quick-create window opens for the fast path: name and contact info, done. If you want to capture everything (address, source, notes), follow the link to the full form instead.

What the full form captures

The form is grouped into three sections:

SectionFields
Personal InformationThis is a company switch, Company Name (required for business leads), First Name (required), Last Name, Email, Phone, Mobile, Website
Address InformationStreet address, city, province/state, postal code, country
Additional InformationLead Source, Message / Notes

Two rules to know:

  • At least one contact method is required. Leave both email and phone empty and WorkZen shows "At least one contact method is required (email or phone)."
  • Lead Source defaults to "Manual Entry". Overwrite it with something useful ("Referral from Mike", "Home show booth") and your source reporting stays honest.
Tip

As soon as you enter an email or phone number, WorkZen checks it against your existing leads and clients. If there's a match, a warning appears before you save, so a repeat caller does not become a duplicate record.

What happens after you save

Click Create Lead and three things happen:

  1. The lead is created with the New status and you land on its detail page, where you can claim it, schedule a visit, or start an estimate.
  2. Teammates with lead access receive a "Lead Added" notification.
  3. The lead appears in the dashboard's New Leads module until someone claims it.

From here it behaves exactly like a lead captured by your website widget: same statuses, same claim flow, same path to becoming a client.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open the lead form

Go to Leads and click New Lead. A quick-create window opens; use the full form link if you want to capture the address and extra details.

  2. 2

    Enter the essentials

First name is required, plus at least one contact method (email or phone). Flip on "This is a company" for business leads and add the company name.

  3. 3

    Save the lead

Click Create Lead. WorkZen opens the new lead's detail page, and teammates with lead access get a "Lead Added" notification.
